Student Defense Statement on DOJ’s Decision to Drop Appeal of Ruling in PSLF Case

Student Defense Chief Counsel Dan Zibel issued a statement today following the Department of Justice’s decision to drop its appeal of a June 30 federal court ruling that found the Trump administration’s attempts to politicize the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program unlawful:

“The Trump administration’s attempt to weaponize public service loan forgiveness against organizations it disagrees with was anti-democratic and unlawful from the start. This is a significant victory for millions of Americans who have dedicated their careers to public service.”
