NSLDN Calls on Education Department to Allow State Representatives in Negotiated Rulemaking

Washington, DC - The National Student Legal Defense Network (NSLDN) today called on Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to allow representatives of state higher education regulators to participate in this year's negotiated rulemaking.

"The issues up for discussion at this negotiated rulemaking are critically important to states, and the Department should ensure that states have a seat at the table," said NSLDN President Aaron Ament. "States play a vital role in regulating American higher education, and to go through the negotiated rulemaking process without their perspective is risky, shortsighted, and inappropriate. I hope the Department will reconsider its previous decision and allow a state higher education representative or state attorney general on the main committee as this process moves forward."
