Notices of Beginning Emergency Actions Against Institutions or Third-Party Servicers

On January 2, 2019, NSLDN submitted a FOIA request to the United States Department of Education seeking all documents constituting notice of the Department's intent to begin an "emergency action" against either an institution of higher education participating in Title IV programs or or a third-party servicer that contracting with such an institution. The Secretary’s use of emergency action is among the enforcement tools that the Department has to assure that institutions and third-party servicers are operating in accordance with all statutory provisions applicable to Title IV of the HEA.
