Student Defense Calls for States To Improve Student SNAP Access

Food insecurity is a significant barrier to college completion for many students in the United States. The Government Accountability Office estimates that approximately 67% of college students who appeared eligible for SNAP were not receiving benefits in 2020.

Student Defense develops policy proposals to remove barriers to student SNAP access for state agencies that administer the program. Helping students meet their basic needs so they can complete their degrees is a core pillar of our work.
