Student Defense Statement on Trump’s Plan to Eliminate the Department of Education

Student Defense President Aaron Ament issued a statement today regarding reported plans by Donald Trump to attempt to illegally shut down the Department of Education by executive fiat:

“Effectively shutting down the Department of Education through executive action or mass firings is a short-sighted, deeply unpopular recipe for chaos and confusion. It will disrupt the lives of students across the country. And trying to do it without Congress is clearly illegal and unconstitutional. We’re already exploring options to stop this unconstitutional overreach.”
