Student Defense Statement on Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Injunction Against Borrower Defense to Repayment Rule

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals today issued an injunction against the Department of Education’s borrower defense to repayment rule, which provides defrauded borrowers a pathway towards discharging their student loan debt. In response, Student Defense President Aaron Ament issued the following statement:

“We cannot afford a green light for dishonest schools to continue harming students. Defrauded borrowers are legally entitled to relief and their institutions should be held accountable. Until these protections are restored, countless students are at risk of being taken advantage of by higher ed profiteers who are exploiting students with little accountability.”
