Student Defense Statement on Donald Trump’s Plan to Dismantle the Department of Education

Student Defense President Aaron Ament issued a statement today in response to reports that the Trump Administration is laying off roughly half of Department of Education staff:

“Eliminating half of the Department of Education staff won’t serve students or improve student aid programs. It will create confusion and disrupt the lives and futures of millions of students across the country, without any clear benefit. Rather than trying to eliminate the agency, the Administration should focus its attention on improving the return on our national investment in higher education.”
